Pte 1191 West Yorkshire Regiment, Prince of Wales Own. 15th Battalion, Leeds Pals. Also, Pte 156585 Machine Gun Corps
Sadly, no service record for David Hirst survives, save for his medal card. We do know that he travelled to Egypt with the Leeds Pals and arrived on the 22nd December 1915. He was awarded the 1915 Star, the Victory and the British War Medals. (Source: Medal Card)
It is possible that he could have been born on 3rd December 1894 in Apperley Bridge, Wharfdale to parents Jesse and Grace Elizabeth (née Lee) who were married in Wetherby in December of 1892.
They had no other children.
In this instance, David is listed as working as a gardener’s assistant in 1911 and living at Gardener Cottage, Woodhouse Grove School, Apperley Bridge, Rawdon. He may have married Minnie Steel in 1922 in Wharfdale and died in 1970.
