Corporal 38207, West Yorkshire Regiment, The Leeds Pals

Only a medal card appears to have survived of Charles’ service record, and despite a fairly uncommon surname I have insufficient information to find him on the census.

The medal card shows only the one regiment, and together with the army number suggests that he probably didn’t join before the middle of the the war.  He may even have been conscripted.  He was posted to A Company, No.4 Platoon, No.4 Section. (Battalion War Diary)

He was discharged to Class Z on 13th February 1920, and was awarded the Victory Medal and British War Medal. (Medal Card on Ancestry website)
